What are Smart Plans?

The Smart Plan is an exciting new plan which offers voice and data benefits along with free minutes to preferred numbers. Not only do you get loads of data but you also get a significantly high call allowance with our new "flexi minutes" which can be used for any type of call.

What are flexi Minutes and how can I use them?

flexi Minutes can be used for national calls, international calls (to 175 destinations) as well as incoming roaming calls while you're abroad.

Will I be charged on a per-second basis?

Yes, Smart Plans are based on per-second pulses.

Are there any restrictions or excluded countries for the flexi minutes?

  • Incoming roaming from flexi minutes apply to some countries only. Click here to see the list of excluded countries/operators
  • International calls to zone 2 and zone 3 are not deducted from the bundled flexi minutes

What are the charges for local calls, international calls, and data usage after the included minutes are over?

  • 0.5 fils/sec for local calls
  • 2 fils/sec for 175 countries
  • 6 fils/sec for 48 countries
  • AED 1/MB for data usage

Can I subscribe to the data packages, Blackberry services, value-added services and others, on top of Smart Plans?

Yes, you can subscribe to all the available data packages, Blackberry services, value-added services. However, you cannot subscribe to the New Postpaid add-ons.

Is the preferred number on any specific plan?

Preferred numbers are only available on Smart 300, Smart 600 and Smart 1000. You can choose any number of your choice in the UAE (mobile or landline) and speak for 300 minutes, for free, every month.

Are these free minutes in addition to the flexi Minutes?

Yes, the free minutes to one preferred number are in addition to the flexi Minutes that you enjoy on your plan.

Note: If you use more minutes, it will then be depleted from your flexi Minutes. Once you use up both your preferred number minutes and flexi Minutes, you will be charged at standard national rates.

What happens to my preferred number if I change my plan?

As long as you are changing to either Smart 300, Smart 600 and Smart 1000, your preferred number will be automatically migrated. If you choose any other plan, you'll lose the benefits of the preferred number and will be charged at regular national calling rates.

How can I activate the preferred number?

Simply text “ACT NAT ” to 1012.

What format should I use for the preferred number?

The preferred number should be entered in full format i.e. 00971xxxxxxx (no space). You will receive an SMS confirming successful setting of your preferred number.

How can I change the preferred number?

Simply text “CHANGE NAT (Old Preferred Number)(New Preferred Number)” to 1012.

Can I configure a non-etisalat number as a preferred number?

Any landline or mobile number in the UAE, from any network, can be set as a preferred number.

Are there any restrictions on changing the preferred number?

Preferred numbers can be changed once per month for AED 25 (5% VAT excluded).

It is the end of the month. I still have 50 flexi Minutes; will it be carried over to the next month?

No carry over of unused benefits, it renews every first of the month.

How can I check my usage?

- Texting “Balance” to 1012
- Dialling *140# and following the instructions.

What are my options once my contract is over?

By the end of the contract, you can:

  • Continue on same plan/benefits
  • Subscribe to data add-on again and start a new contract
  • Migrate to any other plan without exit charges at any time

I am still in the contract period and would like to migrate my line to a Prepaid line, or cancel my account. What will the exit fee be?

For lines activated before 18 March 2019, early exit charges are as follows:

  • 12-month contract plan: AED 50 x remaining months in the contract
  • 24-month contract plan: AED 100 x remaining months in the contract


For lines activated on and after 18 March 2019, early exit charges are as follows:

  • 12-month contract plan: 1 month’s rental charges
  • 24-month contract plan: 1 month’s rental charges

Can I change my Smart Plan to other Postpaid plans while I’m still in the contract period?

Yes you can and there are no early exit charges if you are upgrading your plan to Emirati or New Postpaid plans.

If you migrate to Freedom plans, you will need to settle the early exit charges as per your contract before migration.

If I upgrade/downgrade my Smart Plan, will my included flexi Minutes, data and monthly charges be prorated?

The charges and your flexi Minutes will be prorated. However, your data won't be prorated and you will get the full allowance.

How can I migrate my line to a Prepaid line or cancel my account?

You can visit any etisalat Business Centre or outlet.

Are there any exit charges applied in case of line termination?

For lines activated before 18 March 2019, early exit charges are as follows:

  • Non-contract plan: AED 300 if the plan is terminated or migrated to Prepaid within the first 6 months from the activation date
  • 12-month contract plan: AED 50 x remaining months in the contract
  • 24-month contract plan: AED 100 x remaining months in the contract


For lines activated on and after 18 March 2019, early exit charges are as follows:

  • 12-month contract plan: 1 month’s plan charges
  • 24-month contract plan: 1 month’s plan charges
